Best beaches for swimming

10.00 – 16.00 · sand, cliffs & clear water

Most of Uluwatu's beaches sit at the bottom of a cliff, so expect a walk (or a flight of stairs) to reach the sand — the reward is usually worth it.

Padang Padang Beach

Iconic

One of Bali's most famous beaches, reached through a small rock-cave entrance. A small fee applies, and it's calmest — and quietest — early in the morning.

★ 4.2 · Pecatu

Thomas Beach

Quiet

Clean and noticeably quieter than Padang Padang, with calm water that's genuinely good for swimming. The stairway down is steep but manageable.

★ 4.2 · Pecatu

Melasti Beach

Wide & sandy

Crystal-clear water and easy access — you can drive right down to the sand. Sun loungers and beachfront warungs make it simple to spend the whole day.

★ 4.6 · Ungasan

Nunggalan Beach

Hidden gem

A beautiful, peaceful white-sand beach reached by a 15–20 minute walk down (and a steeper one back up). Waves can be strong, so swim with care.

★ 4.6 · Pecatu

Nyang-Nyang Beach

Secluded

A long, wild stretch of white sand that feels far removed from the crowds — no beach clubs, just waves and open sky. It's a proper trek to reach (steep path down, or a paid motorbike lift back up), so come prepared with water and snacks. Calmer at high tide, when the sea is at its clearest; currents can be strong, so it suits a relaxed dip more than serious swimming. Best enjoyed slowly, ideally in the late afternoon.

★ 4.5 · Pecatu

Dreamland Beach

Lively

Soft sand and a lively, sociable atmosphere, with sun beds and umbrellas for rent. Great for relaxing — swim when the waves are calm, and stay on for sunset.

★ 4.4 · Pecatu

Sundays Beach Club

Private beach club

A private cove with genuinely calm, protected water — one of the easier spots for a proper swim. Day-bed packages come with food-and-drink credit, and there's paddleboarding and snorkeling too.

★ 4.5 · Ungasan

12.00 – 15.00 · after the beach
